Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Friday (September 20, 2024) that his government will take stringent action against those involved in the alleged torture of an army officer and sexual assault of his fiancee at a police station in Bhubaneswar.

The Odisha Police Crime Branch registered a case on Friday related to the alleged sexual assault of an army officer’s fiancé while in police custody, a senior officer revealed. The case has been lodged against five police personnel from the Bharatpur Police Station in Bhubaneswar,

Meanwhile, the police have countered the allegations, stating that the woman and her Army officer partner, who is with the 22 Sikh Regiment in Kolkata, were intoxicated and had attacked an on-duty officer, damaging police property in the process.

The woman said she was returning home with her friend, the Army officer, after closing her restaurant late at night when some men allegedly misbehaved with them.
